The beneficial nematode Heterohabditis bacteriophora is the most aggressive species in hunting down and killing thick skinned soil grubs. Apply Nematodes Terranem in early summer to combat wireworms and weevils. Applying Terranem once, and then 28 days later is thought to be more effective against wireworm infestation. The soil temperature must be 13° to 33°C (55° to 91°F) for Terranem to be effective. Predatory nematodes are effective against over 250 species of insect pests. Only insects that have a soil dwelling stage (egg, larvae, pupae or adult) can be controlled by nematodes. Therefore nematodes are best used as a preventative. In field crops they infect cutworms, grubs, root borer larvae, root weevil larvae, flea beetle larvae, and other pests. Parasitic nematodes invade and destroy white grubs, pill bugs eggs & larvae, Japanese beetle larvae, crane fly larvae, and other harmful pests commonly found in lawns and turf.
This is the best biological control for European chafer beetle larvae, and should be applied when the soil temperature is between 13-33°C (55-91°F) in order to parasitize the eggs and early larval stages.
The fifty million nematodes in the package will cover an area of 230m2 (2,500 square feet).
