This is my 3rd year growing Emerald Tower Basil in a self watering planter (0.35m x 1m) on my deck in Saskatchewan.
Started indoors & out to the planter early June, and it starts to "tower" by mid July, and I can harvest 3rd week of July.
I am getting ~130 gr of leaves from each tower. I carefully prune it back to ~20cm, leaving a branching node on each stem for bushy growth and more harvests in Aug & Sep.
10 plants are lots for my annual pesto making, leaving lots to share with friends.
Fast growing and the zucchinis are delicious. You just have to stay on top of cucumber beetles. We had to check for beetles at least once a day. Despite usual recommendations to direct sow, I started my early plants in large soil blocks (to minimize root disturbance) and transplanted with no issues at all. I have just started a later plant by direct sowing.
These were our favourite peas of the season. Lovely vigorous plants and gorgeously sweet crisp snappea. Only issue was the plants were the first plant to get powdery mildew.
I’m always pleased with the seeds from West Coast. Quick delivery too.
