This proved to be the most productive vine tomato in my garden, in a long hot Okanagan summer. The stripy fruits are lovely to look at, and tasty too, if not quite as good as Prairie Fire. You’ll need to keep taking out suckers as this vine leaps up 8, 9 or 10 feet tall, but it’ll be worth it!
I grew Prairie Fire from seed after planting one from the garden centre last year. Planted alongside three other tomato varieties, this was the first, and still the tastiest, one of all. The stripy fruits are very pretty too. The compact plants seem to sucker less than other types, but they also produce rather less fruit.
I grew these alongside 3 other tomato varieties in Kelowna. The plants are so sturdy they could probably manage without support. The fruits are indeed beautiful, and fairly plentiful, though the plants have remained quite stocky and short. The main limitation is the flavour, which is fine but not delicious.
