1. Shipping & Storage

How Your Mason Bees Are Stored & Shipped

Our mason bees are carefully stored at 2–4°C to keep them dormant until the right time.

We ship across Canada using Canada Post Expedited or Xpress Post, depending on your location and the season. These methods are selected specifically to ensure your bees arrive safely and at the correct stage of development.

2. If Your Bees Hatch During Shipping

If Your Bees Hatch Early — Don’t Worry.

Occasionally, warmer transit conditions can cause bees to hatch early. They are still healthy and can be safely cared for until release.

What to do:

  1. Place bees in the fridge for 1 hour to slow them down

  2. Mix equal parts honey and warm water

  3. Soak a cotton ball, then let it cool and drip off excess

  4. Place it in a container with the bees

  5. Allow bees to warm slightly and feed

  6. Remove cotton ball and return bees to the fridge

They will remain nourished and ready for release.

When & How to Release Your Mason Bees

Release your bees when dandelions begin to bloom—this is a natural signal that conditions are right.

Best practice:

  1. Place bees in their nesting house at night

  2. This allows them to wake gradually and orient properly

Avoid daytime release:

Releasing during the day can cause bees to fly off too quickly before establishing their nesting location.
