Season & Zone
Season: Fall or Spring
Exposure: Full sun, partial shade, or full shade (depending on blend)
Zone: 2bβ7b
Timing
For best results, plant seed bombs in autumn just before the ground freezes. They can also be planted in early spring after undergoing a simulated winterβstore them in the freezer for at least two months before use. When spring temperatures sit between 2β10Β°C, drop or press the seed bombs into place. If temperatures rise above 10Β°C, thaw the bombs at room temperature for two days before planting. Summer planting is possible but may delay germination until the following year.
Starting
For controlled placement, gently press the seed bomb into the soil without burying it. If launching them, keep in mind that they may not bloom exactly where they land. Leaves or mulch can be placed overtop for protection during winter, but should be removed in spring. In fall, seed bombs can be set directly onto soil, at ground level, or even placed on snow.
Days to Maturity
Seeds typically sprout in 4β8 weeks. Some species require a winter cycle to break dormancy and may not emerge until the following year.
Growing
Seed bombs thrive in well-draining soil and require very little maintenance. They are drought-tolerant and usually rely on natural rainfall for moisture. For spring planting, place them onto bare soil just before rainfall or watering and keep the area well-soaked during the early stages of growth. Light requirements vary by blend: Full Sun blends include Bee Zen Blend, Butterfly Garden, Eco Warrior Blend, No Brainer Container, and Radiating Sunflowers. Partial Shade blends include Bee Zen Blend, Butterfly Garden, Eco Warrior Blend, and No Brainer Container. Zen in the Shade performs best in full shade.
Seed Info
