Premium Irish Moss Seeds - Sagina Subulata Seeds

Product Details

Irish moss (Sagina subulata) forms a dense, cushiony carpet of emerald-green foliage just 2.5–5cm (1–2”) tall, soft and slightly springy underfoot. Tiny white star-shaped flowers with yellow centres cover the plants from late spring into mid-summer. This hardy perennial is ideal between flagstones and along rock pathways, and it can even be grown as a lawn substitute for a moss-covered meadow effect. It thrives in full sun to partial shade.

The seeds are very tiny and easily blown away, so we recommend starting them indoors. Sprinkle them on the surface of moist, well-draining mix without covering them, because they need light to germinate. Keep the mix at 15–21°C (60–70°F) and mist twice a day so it never dries out. Seedlings emerge in 14–21 days; thin them to 1–2.5cm (½–1”) apart. Harden them off before transplanting outdoors. If you sow directly outside, scatter the seeds over a 50/50 mix of sand and soil and keep the area constantly moist until germination. Once established, water every 3 days and feed sparingly, with a slow-release fertilizer once in spring.

Please note: this item ships directly from our partner, Mossify. Orders that include Mossify products are sent from two separate locations, so an additional shipping charge will apply.
