Hello! My name is Christopher and I have been running the Rutland Elementary School Community Garden program for 9 years. Last year, 190 children planted and harvested their own vegetables and in the process learned a little. I'd love to see more gardens like this, and there is an initiative for another presently underway. Many of the children had never eaten many of the vegetables like radish leaves, lettuce, spinach, white carrots, or fresh herbs. I like think that they will continue to eat a wider variety of food.
I love having the opportunity to share healthy eating choices with kids. I have been volunteering with children in Kelowna in many difference capacities for over 30 years.
