We are a community volunteer-based seed library. We share seeds, plants, knowledge, and enthusiasm for gardening from the Ocean Park Library once a month for seven months of the year. People come to the library to exchange seeds of heritage plants, seedlings, and seeds from various seed companies, and to return seeds from plants they have grown in the community. We have seeds from many cultures and backgrounds, as people bring what they grow. Information sessions are offered, and master gardener volunteers are available to answer questions about how and where to plant your seedlings or seeds.

Many people bring extra seedlings they have grown to share. We ask that participants return or bring seeds of plants they have grown so that the community benefits from varieties adapted to our local climate and soil conditions.
Our program includes schools, community gardens, community programs, and food bank gardens. We also provide packages of donated seeds to the library for those who cannot attend on seed day. People are limited to a few packages so that more can share. This year, there have been about 500 visits to collect plants or seeds.
Some community members also return seeds to the group. While not all are usable, as some may not be ripe or may be cross-pollinated, we deeply appreciate everyone’s contributions. We are especially thankful for the box of seeds we receive from West Coast Seeds each year, as they help fill in the gaps of varieties we do not have returned.
Gardening helps bring sustainable food to many, supports mental and physical health through outdoor activity, and offers the joy of seeing something grow. It is a wonderful way to share community bounty, help local food banks, and exchange knowledge.
Growing something from seed or seedling is one of the best ways to teach patience, foster connection with the world, and build community.
Our seed library is completely volunteer run and connects many people through the shared joy of growing.
