Hi Pat – We recommend that you discard the soil, or add it to a compost heap. For potato plants to do well, they draw nutrients from the soil — they remove those nutrients. So next year the soil will not be as nutritious for your plants. Particularly in container growing, it’s useful to replenish soil regularly. You’ll have much happier, healthier plants if you provide them with fresh, rich soil each season.
