Starburst radish seeds “watermelon radish” has a bright red interior beneath a white skin with green shoulders. Starburst has great flavour raw, and it’s the best radish for pickling. For best results plant this cold-loving crop in the fall for winter production. Plants tend to bolt (go to seed) if soil warms up for any length of time. Plant radishes near beans, beets, celeriac, chervil, cucumber, lettuce, mint, parsnip, peas, spinach, squash, and tomatoes. Avoid planting near agastache or potatoes. It is said that planting 3 or 4 icicle radishes around the mound where you plant squash, and allowing them to grow and bloom, will prevent most pests of squash and cucumber.
