C. baccatum var. pendulum. Friars Hat pepper seeds were originally grown in Barbados as Peri-Peri. Sometimes called Bishop’s Crown, these unusually shaped, three cornered fruits are wider than they are long, and can be mildish to VERY spicy. Start indoors in March above 20°C (70°F) to allow them time to ripen from light green to bright red. Their best flavour does not develop until the mature red stage, when it becomes sweet and tangy, a bit like the taste of a fresh red bell pepper, but with more edge and a lot more heat. Nearly all the seeds and pith are contained in the upper, domed, “hat” area, and can be easily removed. 5,000 – 30,000 SHU’s. Sold by seed count.
Matures in 100 days. (Open-pollinated seeds)
