Maiko romaine lettuce seeds are described as a “Rougette” variety. This new red leaf lettuce from France is beautiful to behold, and falls somewhere in between classic Bibb and romaine. Upright growth with very tender, deep bronze leaves. Maiko is an all season lettuce, slow to bolt in the summer, and with good cold tolerance for winter harvests. It will perform well in the field or under cover, and it’s the first lettuce of its type to boast a high resistance to mildew. Try Maiko in a cloche tunnel or cold frame, and harvest all winter long.
