Create a visual center point in your flower garden this summer with Dahlia Santa Claus, and its electrifying 15ccm (6″) blooms. This is one of the most beloved Dahlias in terms of its defined flower shape and vivid colour. Hummingbirds adore this flower that typically grows to 100cm (40″) tall. Give each planting 45-60cm (18-24″) space to grow.
The dahlia is a cousin of the sunflower — both originated in Mexico. Since its first domestication, the dahlia has morphed into over 57,000 cultivars, with flowers appearing in a dazzling array of colours, sizes, and shapes. The Royal Horticultural Society manages a standard classification system based on flower form. These range from simple single flowers to cactus-like, peony-like, and pompon. Dahlias are not typically scented, so they rely on colour and flower size to lure pollinators.
