The leaves of this amazing “sugar plant” have extracts said to be 300 times sweeter than sugar. Useful as a sweetener for diabetics and dieters, research has shown that Stevia has additional uses in treating blood pressure problems. The plant, which does well in the border or in containers, grows to 60cm (24″) tall, with clusters of tiny, but attractive white flowers emerging from the tip of every branching stem. Pick fresh leaves from the plant and chew them to release a very surprising, unmistakable, sugar-like quality. Give Stevia a nice sunny spot in your herb garden or patio container garden, with fertile, well drained soil. Note: Stevia seeds are sold by seed count, not weight.

How to Grow Stevia
Stevia is a genus in the sunflower family with about 240 known species. Sweetleaf is Stevia rebaudiana, which is native to South America. The greatest challenge with Stevia is germination. How to Grow Stevia from seeds ? Sweetleaf is famously difficult crop from seed. Once plants are established, they will grow well in hot weather, and are good candidates for summer containers.
Sow seeds on the surface of damp, sterile seed mix, and use bottom heat. Warmth and bright light are necessary for germination. Be advised that germination is challenging. The germination rate shown on our packaging reflects laboratory conditions. Without the use of bottom heat, few or none of the seeds will germinate. We highly recommend using a heat mat.
