Zinnia elegans. For sheer elegance, it’s hard to compare to the luxurious but formal 10cm (4″) wide blooms produced by Envy Zinnia seeds. The remarkable, fully double, dahlia-like flowers are a uniform pale chartreuse green. All other Zinnias might be green with envy. You have to see a formal wedding table set with vases full of Envy Zinnias against crisp white linens to appreciate their potential. The gorgeous flowers appear at the tops of perfectly straight stems as tall as 76cm (30″) that form in uniform rows with no particularly special care. They are easy to grow and bring an unusual, cool colour to any bouquet.

Direct sow after last frost, in April and May on the coast. Zinnias don’t transplant well, but you can try starting some indoors in peat or coir pots 6-8 weeks before planting out. Maintain a soil temperature of 21-26°C (70-80°F). Seeds should germinate in 5-24 days.
Just cover Zinnia seeds, and aim for a final spacing of 25-30cm (10-12″) between plants.
