Cheiranthus cheiri. Start Lollipop wallflower seeds early and the wallflowers should bloom the first year, which is unusual for a biennial. Exceptionally bright mixed colours in this mixture offer a nice contrast in early spring and summer. Plants are dwarf and compact, so very well suited to container growing. Use Lollipop wallflower seeds to create a long lasting border display. Learn when to plant wallflower seeds in our How to Grow Wallflower instructions in the tab below. Most wallflowers will be in bloom in early spring, coinciding with tulips. So they make the perfect container partner for tulip bulbs.

This perennial is usually grown as an annual. It is often listed under its synonym name Cheiranthus cheiri or under its common name Agean Wallflower. It is to grow wallflowers from seed, just follow these instructions.

Erysimum cheiri (syn. Cheiranthus cheri)
Family: Brassicaceae

Season & Zone
Exposure: Full sun to partial shade
Zone: 3-9

Direct sow in early spring when a light frost is still a possibility, or direct sow in the fall in mild winter areas. Erysimum is very susceptible to damping off, but if you want to try sowing indoors, do so 4-8 weeks before planting out after the last frost. Maintain a soil temperature of 18-25°C (65-75°F) and water only from below. Provide ventilation.

Sow seeds 5mm (¼”) deep. Space plants around 25-30cm (10-12″) apart.

Grow in neutral to slightly alkaline, average garden soil. Pinch growing tips in spring to encourage bushiness. Plants can be discarded after blooming or kept in situ and mulched in the autumn.
