Timing
Direct sow starting just before last frost, and again every two weeks until end of May. Can be direct sown in autumn as well. Starting indoors is not necessary, but can be accomplished by keeping seed trays in the dark at the optimal soil temperature of 15-21°C (60-70°F). Move under bright lights once germination occurs, and transplant out in late spring, around mid-May.

Just cover the small seeds. Thin or space to 15-30cm (6-12″) apart.

These flowers are extremely easy to grow and the colors are so attractive. Grow really fast and bloom quickly. We have several plants that grew into a giant bush and produced massive flowers literally non-stop. The seeds mature in a very short time, making seed collection very easy and efficient. We collected and froze plenty of flower petals to be used during winter to add fancy touches to dishes. The only issue we had is they don’t handle winds very well. A couple of plants were knocked over by severe wind storms and died. We staked the rest
and they were fine. But other than that, these are really terrific plants.
