Saintpaulia ionantha. This strain of African Violets produces a diverse array of flower colours and types, but all have attractively variegated leaves. So even before blooming they make stunning houseplants. Fully mature plants can reach 23-30cm (9-12”) in diameter.
African Violets have been much loved as houseplants since Victorian plant hunters first encountered them growing in Tanzania. They are incredibly diverse, but excellent for indoor growing. They are generally undemanding and thrive best in dappled light.
