C. maxima. Gold Nugget is an amazing bush plant with all the squash fruits setting in a cluster at the base of the plant - as many as 10 on each! The fruits from Gold Nugget squash seeds are small, round, orange fruits weigh 500-700g (1 - 1.5lb) and have golden flesh that keeps well. Wait until the skin is no longer shiny to pick them. Plant this variety slightly closer together in your squash patch as this is a real space saver. But leave room to get in between plants because the small buttercup fruits really do cling to the base of each plant.

The three species of squash that we offer represent a wide variety of shapes and colours. Each will cross-pollinate readily within their species. For instance, all C. pepo will cross-pollinate with each other, but not with C. maxima or C. moschata. For people who want to save their seeds, this is a very important consideration. The fruits themselves will not be affected by cross pollination, but the seeds inside will be, so squash need to be grown in isolation from other members of their species if seed saving is the goal.
