Sunflowers

Bloom time: Summer to mid-autumn, depending on variety and planting time.

Few plants have earned such a profound place in our cultural lexicon as the sunflower. These annual members of the Aster family grow incredibly quickly, and can achieve heights of 3m (10") or more in a few short months. And then the massive flowers appear, attracting hundreds of bees and other pollinators. All sunflower seeds are edible - if you can beat the birds and squirels to them!
