UC157

This second generation (F2) asparagus is an outstanding variety for the Coast and other mild climate areas. It gives the advantage of earlier production and heavier total yields than some of the older commercial varieties. Three to five dark green spears are produced from each mature crown. The spears are 1.5-2mm (1/2-3/4") in diameter, with light bracts. Moderate tolerance to fusarium root rot. (hybrid seeds)

Asparagus varieties grown from seed have many desirable characteristics such as increased vigour and greater adaptability to local conditions.  The spears supply many vitamins and minerals and are low in calories.  They are best used within days of harvest for the greatest benefit.  Store in the refrigerator wrapped in a damp paper towel.  (Family: Lily, Lillacea)
