Garden Purslane
This hot weather plant provides handfuls of thick, succulent, green leaves that add a light lemony crunch to salads. Leaves are much larger than the wild type and the plant grows upright, not prostrate. An excellent source of natural antioxidants. Sow indoors or out in late May when soil is really warm. It can be cut almost to ground but leave two leaves at the base for re-growth. Garden Purslane self-sows if allowed to flower. Matures in 60 days. (
