Summer 2009 surprised us with frost at the end of June. Alas, the beans, squash and tomatoes froze...above ground, anyhow. Gold Nugget was one of the tomato varieties that was able to regenerate from the roots and give a harvest by the end of summer. I also direct-seeded Gold Nugget in July in case the other tomatoes didn't recover, and lo and behold, the plants had time to mature before the end of our short summer. I'm withholding a star because the tomatoes could have been better-flavoured, but that may have been related to the cool nights, and not the tomato's fault. |
