Flower Seeds Echinacea
Echinacea
Bloom time: Summer through early autumn.
The Latin name, Echinacea comes from the Greek "echinos", meaning hedgehog. The central cone becomes more pointed and prickly as the flower matures. Echinacea is renowned for its medicinal properties. The Choctaw used it as both a cough medicine and gastrointestinal aid. Today it is thought to contain properties that stimulate the immune system, but long term use is an issue that needs more study.
