Rutabagas
The big yellow roots we know as rutabagas are often called winter turnips or Swedes. They originated as a cross between the cabbage and the turnip. Before pumpkins were readily availible in the UK and Ireland, these large root vegetables were hollowed out and carved for use as Jack o'Lanterns.
Laurentian Organic
Certified organic! Bright purple skins cover the top two thirds of this globe-shaped rutabaga. The 10-15cm (4-6") roots keep very well in winter storage, and add rich flavour to soups and stews, as well as vitamin C and carotenoids, which encourage normal cell growth. For a lowly rutabaga, Laurentian looks great on market tables.
