Spearmint is an herbaceous perennial that thrives in wet soils and almost all temperate climates. It enjoys partials shade but can handle anything from full sun to heavy shade. Its invasive spreading roots make it a better container than garden plant, unless if you want an entire bed and lawn of spearmint!
The leaves of this herb can be used fresh or dried and are best harvested before the plant flowers, as they lose much of their aroma after flowering. Use spearmint in mint-flavoured chocolate candy and soothing teas. (Family: Lamiaceae)
