Chives

Chives are among the hardiest and easiest to grow herbs. Start them from seed in the spring in a pot and transplant the seedlings outdoors or ask a friend to divide a clump of bulbs from their vigorous patch. Chives are one of the earliest herbs to come up in the spring and one of the last to retire in the winter, making them a dependable plant for seasoning your yogurts, dips, and salad dressings. In Ukraine, chive seedlings signal the coming of spring as robins do in North America. (Family: Allium, Alliaceae)
