Hollyhocks

Tall spikes of papery flowers cheer cottage gardens or vegetable patches, summer to autumn. Fabulous along a picket fence or stonewall. Sow indoors in early spring for flowers the first year, or in summer for flowers next season. Lightly cover, germinates in 10-14 days. Expect rust, which will not affect blooms. Cut back blooms after flowering. (Family: Mallow, Malvaceae)
