Leeks have a distinctive mild flavour and they retain a firm texture when cooked. They have slightly more nutrients than onions because we eat the green leaves as well. To blanch the stems, carefully push soil up around the stems or mulch with straw. (Family: Onion, Alliaceae)
This sturdy winter harvest leek comes from Holland. Its dark blue-green leaves are distinctive in the winter garden. Chop and fry these sweet leeks like onions all winter long.
