Peas
The green pea is a home garden specialty because peas really have the very best sweet flavour and nutrition when they are freshly picked. The days to maturity we state are from a March planting and are about twice as long as those listed in other catalogues because of our long cool spring. Summer planted peas mature much faster. In our rich soils and cool climate the peas that we trellis will also grow taller than listed elsewhere.
Alderman Tall Telephone
Exceptional flavour is well worth the 2-2.5m (6-8') tall trellis these need. Huge pods have a long harvest window and are easy to pick and shell for large peas. Check a few to see if they are filled before picking. Not enation-resistant.

Cascadia
This delicious snap pea was developed just for the West Coast. The vines do not need a trellis but tumble happily about (try putting some twigs in to support them), growing to approximately 0.6m (2") overall. The dark green pods are a nice 9cm (3.5") long and are crunchy, juicy, and sweet. Resistant to the enation virus and powdery mildew.

Dwarf Grey Sugar
Attractive purple flowers precede small, sweet slender pods on this small plant that only grows to 76-90cm (30-36") tall. The leaves and stems have a slight red tint, and are great for garnishes or in salads.

Green Arrow
Excellent shelling peas for fresh eating, freezing, canning or cooking. Born in pairs at the top of the short bush are heavy yields of dark green pods to 11cm (4.5") containing 9 to 11 peas each. The peas themselves are tender and sweet and the 70cm (28") plants are resistant to wilt and mildew - ideal for coastal gardens!

Little Marvel
Since its introduction in 1908, this super-early HEIRLOOM bush pea has been a favourite both for home gardeners and commercial growers. Stocky, semi-dwarf bushes from 30-45cm (12-18") tall are well suited to container growing for balcony gardens, or in the vegetable bed. In containers, the peas can be grown in spring, and cut back in time for a summer crop, leaving the soil enriched with nitrogen. Each of the 8-10cm (3-4") pods contain 6-9 mid-green, tasty peas. Winner of the RHS Award of Garden Merit!

Mammoth Melting Sugar
Among the largest available snow peas, these 10-13 cm (4-5") long pods are produced on 1.2m (4') tall plants that require a trellis. The large white flowers of this heirloom variety are pretty enough to use as cut flowers, and the pods are sweet and tender.

Oregon Giant
The unusually large, broad 13cm (5") long pods are thick and very sweet. They are most tender when peas begin to form but remain so up to the very largest sizes. The plant is short at 1.2m (4'). Very resistant to pea enation and powdery mildew.

Oregon Sugar Pod 2
This edible pod snow pea has been a popular variety for ages. The flowers are white and vines are short, with very sweet, crispy pods to about 10cm (4") long.

Paladio
For big, easy-to-open pods full of sweet peas, look at Paladio. The long pods are usually borne in doubles and are easy to see and pick. These plants do not need to be trellised; they tumble about on a short plant only 45cm (18") tall. You will get several tasty harvests from Paladio.

Snow Green
Snow Green has a darker green pod than Snow Wind or Oregon Sugar Pod and the colour holds well when picked. The pods are about 8cm (3") long and borne in multiples. Short plants do not need trellising and are resistant to powdery mildew and pea leaf roll virus. Wonderful for stir-fries!

Sugar Ann
Extra early, incredibly sweet snap peas on short, 60cm (2') vines that don't require trellising. Excellent choice for smaller garden spaces. The bushy plants produce crisp, tasty, 6cm (2 1/2") pods, and have excellent resistance to enation and powdery mildew. 1984 AAS Winner and RHS Award Winner for Garden Merit.

Sugar Daddy
A very productive, 60-75cm (24-30") bushy plant that benefits from some support, Sugar Daddy's uniquely stringless, 8cm (3") snap peas grow in pairs near the top of the plant for easy picking. Good disease resistance.

Sugar Lace II
This variety replaces Sugar Daddy. Sweet, stringless pods are borne on 80cm (30") semi-leafless vines. Pods are about 9cm (3 1/2") long and average 2 pods per node for high production (it yielded well for our market garden). Yields are earlier than those of Sugar Snap. Powdery mildew resistant and tolerant to enation virus.

Super Sugar Snap
These fat, 8cm (3") dark-green pods are the sweetest of our snap peas. The crunchy pods are excellent for eating cooked or raw. The climbing vines must be trellised and will easily grow 2m (6') or more in good soil. Not enation resistant.
