Melons
Though they taste very sweet, melons contain so much water that they have only as many calories as an onion (pound for pound). Watermelons, cantaloupes and Honeydew melons are easily digested and provide a source of potassium and vitamin C. Melons with deep-orange flesh are also an excellent source of beta carotene.
Black Beauty Mini Watermelon
Wonderful flavour in a personal sized watermelon. Crisp, seedless melons with dark, firm skin over rich red flesh. Nice and compact plants! Fruits grow 2 to 2.5kg (4-5.5 lbs).

Blacktail Mountain Watermelon Organic
Blacktail Mountain is an extremely early, certified organic watermelon, with flowers appearing weeks before other varieties. This cold-tolerant melon is perfect for the cool springs here on the Coast, although it may perform better under a cloche or in a greenhouse. The vines are compact and bear several 23cm (9"), melons with very dark green skin and scarlet flesh that is sweet, crunchy and full of flavour.

Cream of Saskatchewan Watermelon Organic
Originally from Russia, this Certified Organic Heirloom watermelon has very sweet, crisp, white flesh and black seeds beneath a bright green rind with dark stripes. Fruits to 4.5 kg (10 lbs). Cream of Saskatchewan does exceptionally well in colder climates like Coastal B.C. and New England. New for 2009.

Diana Watermelon
Beautiful little golden-yellow watermelons with fantastic, dark pink flesh. Each fruit weighs around 1kg (2.2 lb). They are fast to mature and have good disease resistance. Their unusual colour makes them stand out like gems in the garden.

Diplomat Honeydew
What a wonderful flavour! The thick pale green flesh of this Galia-type melon has a rich, almost tropical aroma and taste. Diplomat Honeydew is tolerant to powdery mildew as well. Fruits are almost round, with fine netting about 2.2-2.8kg (5-6lbs) on a strong vine.

EarliChamp Cantaloupe
This melon is very similar to the popular Earligold cantaloupe with its slight sutures and heavy netting. The fruit on EarliChamp is larger and heavier, and the plant has an improved array of disease resistance - Powdery Mildew Resistance, Fusarium Wilt Resistance races 0 & 2. Best of all, the thick orange flesh is wonderfully sweet.

Earlidew Honeydew
Honeydews have sweet green flesh. This early hybrid is well-suited to the cool growing conditions on the Coast. When ripe, the 1kg (2.2lb) fruit develops a golden patina on its white skin. The vigorous vines are fusarium resistant.

Golden Sunrise Watermelon
We had rave reviews for this watermelon. Dark green on the outside and golden yellow on the inside, Golden Sunrise fills your mouth with a sweet rich fruity taste. Its productive vines were the first of all our melons to ripen fruit in the hot, dry summer of 2003. Melons average 2.2kg (5lb).

Jade Star Watermelon
Citrullus lanatus
Jade Star is a distinctive, round, dark green watermelon. The very juicy red flesh has a traditional, delicious taste. The fruit size averages 3-5kg (8-12lb). Seeds are brown and tender enough to crunch. Watermelons generally need warmer days than cantalopes to mature their fruits. However, the effort of growing them is well rewarded with their wonderful flavour.

Minnesota Midget Canteloupe Organic
This cute little CERTIFIED ORGANIC HEIRLOOM melon was developed at the Univiversity of Minnesota in 1948 and is about 10cm (4") across and weigh about a pound each. The vines are not too long so the plant can be grown in a big container in a warm, sunny location. These early sweet melons have thick, golden yellow flesh and, like other cantaloupes, the fruit slips from the vine when ripe.

Moon and Stars Watermelon Organic
CERTIFIED ORGANIC! The unique rind on the Moon and Stars Watermelon really does look like the moon and stars - very dark green, but dotted all over with bright golden spots like the night sky. This delicious, incredibly sweet, heirloom Moon and Stars is a curiosity that bears large melons averaging 11-13kg (25-30 lbs), but some growers have managed melons as big as 23kg (50 lbs)!
