Leeks
Leeks have a distinctive mild flavour and they retain a firm texture when cooked. They have slightly more nutrients than onions because we eat the green leaves as well. To blanch the stems, carefully push soil up around the stems or mulch with straw.
Bandit
This sturdy winter harvest leek comes from Holland. Its dark blue-green leaves are distinctive in the winter garden. Chop and fry these sweet leeks like onions all winter long. Late to bolt, they will remain in good condition into April. Thick stems show very little bulbing.

Mammoth Pot Leek
Pot leeks are often grown inside clay drainpipes to maximize the blanched (edible) lower portion. Sow these cold hardy leeks indoors between January and February, or outdoors in late March/early April. Excellent flavour, and good as baby leeks, they can be grown on to full size with 14cm (5.5") blanches on 2m (6') tall plants. Great for market tables!

Tadorna
Very reliable, vigorous leeks with dark blue-green leaves and medium length, blanched shanks. Harvest October to December from this very hardy leek. Tadorna will overwinter in mild seasons.

Varna Organic
CERTIFIED ORGANIC! Varna is the ultimate summer leek replacing Imperial Copenhagen Market. It grows so quickly that it can be harvested at the green onion stage for gourmet baby leeks when closely planted. Left to mature, the white stalks can grow to very slender 35cm (14") long with lighter green leaves. Not winter hardy!
