Beans Dry
Dried Bean seeds such as Black Turtle and Red Kidney are excellent protein sources when combined with whole grains, nuts or small amounts of meat or fish. CERTIFIED ORGANIC beans also contain fiber and minerals (remember to discard the soaking and cooking water to decrease flatulence). When dry, shell pods individually or bash plants back and forth in a bag or pillowcase. We recommend sowing early ( mid May) so plants can mature as many pods as possible. Wait till the pods are straw colored, then pull the plant up and hang to dry.
Black Turtle
Black Turtle HEIRLOOM drying bean is easy to grow on upright, semi-runner bushes. The handsome purple pods cover small black seeds that bring excellent flavour to refritos, refried beans, soups, and chili.

Borlotti
The Italian HEIRLOOM. Long vines that will grow to 20 feet tall if provided support. These "rampicante" climbing beans produce masses of 15cm (6") pods by late summer, each filled iwth good, firm, cream coloured beans streaked with red. You'll be amazed how productive this vigorous climber can be. The beans are easy to shuck and dry, and once reconstituted for winter soups, they are creamy in texture, with a wonderful nutty flavour.

French HEIRLOOM beans grown for dried seed, also known as Borlotti or Cranberry beans. 15cm (6”) pods are not recommended for eating - save the dry beans instead.
