Cosmos
A really dependable garden favourite, Cosmos lightens up any garden. Beginning to flower in late summer, they bloom most heavily from September to frost. Cosmos flowers are a valuable source of nectar for bees and hummingbirds when other garden flowers have faded. Direct-sow 0.3cm (1/8"), covering lightly; or start indoors in pots in late April on the Coast for earlier blooms.

Sea Shells Mix
Half-Hardy Annual (HHA)
This novel cosmos has petals cupped like a little rolled trumpet. Pink, red, lavender and white flowers surround pale gold centres. The ferny foliage is excellent in flower arrangements, and the plant grows 1-1.6m (3-5') tall and thrives on neglect, but deadheading will extend the flowering period.
Sensation Mix
Hardy Annual
Sonata
Half-Hardy Annual (HHA)
Sonata features single blooms with colours similar to "Sensation" mix but on a smaller plant. Pretty in containers, they are free-flowering. Fleuro-Select Gold Medal winner. Half hardy. Grows to 20" tall.
Sulfur
Dazzling yellow to reddish orange single flowers on this striking species cosmos (C. sulphureus). The intense colour attracts birds and beneficial insects, and looks terrific as part of a cut flower mix. Grow in full sun in a variety of soils - tend towards the dry side. Plants grow to about 1m (3') tall, for the middle or front of a mixed border.
