Coreopsis
Bloom time: Late spring to early autumn.
Coreopsis bring flashes of lemon yellow to rich gold, and even deep mahogany red to the garden. It looks positively spectacular planted en mass - a month-long blaze of colour over a large area. This is one of the truly care-free flowers.
Plains Coreopsis
Coreopsis tinctoria
Native to North America, and specifically to the Great Plains where it is commonly known as Calliopsis. This species has somewhat variable dark red markings at the centres of bright golden yellow flowers on annual plants that only grow to 30cm (12") tall. Spectacular in mass plantings, but also pairs very well with other flowers. Be careful not to overfeed. Coreopsis may self sow.
