Collinsia
Bloom time: Spring to mid-summer.
Called "Chinese Houses" because of their resemblance to towering pagodas, the flowers of Collinsia are low growing, and form a carpet of purple to blue in spring and early summer. Collinsia are native to California, not China. These flowers are intensely attractive to bees and other pollinators, and work really well at the front of the border or planted in mass settings.
Chinese Houses
Annual (A)
Pagoda shaped inflorescences of purple and white bicolour flowers top this charming plant. Growing to only 30-60cm (12-24”) tall, it looks great planted at the front of the border, and best of all, it prefers the cool, damp weather so common in Coastal gardens. Collinsia is highly attractive to beneficial insects.
